The access you had at the foundation pour is gone by floor day
Look at what sits between the road and the floor you are about to pour. On the day the footings went in, the excavation was open and a truck could get near the edge of it. By the time the floor is ready, walls are standing on those footings, the ground outside has been pushed back against them, and the way in has closed off. That is the ordinary sequence on a basement, not a mistake anybody made on your job.
So the question stops being where a chute can reach and becomes which opening a hose can travel through. A chute needs the truck itself to get within a few feet of the forms. A pump hose only needs a path a man can walk with the discharge end in his hands, and it can take that path through a wall that is already standing.
Which opening the line comes in through
The way in gets picked on the walk rather than over the phone, because it depends on how far along the house is. With the deck not framed yet, the top of the wall is wide open and the line drops straight in over it. Once the floor system is on, the candidates narrow to whatever the framing left you.
What gets looked at is the turn, not the width. Getting hose through an opening is easy. Getting it through and then around a corner at the bottom of a stairwell without a hard kink is the part that takes thinking, because a kink is the spot where a line packs up and a pour stops.
- A walkout door or a garage door opening, when the grade hands you one
- A window opening in the foundation wall, with the crew inside taking the end
- A stairwell, when the framing above has closed the other options off
- Over the top of the wall, on a foundation with the deck not on yet
Placing a floor from the far corner back
Inside a basement the crew has one way out, and the concrete cannot end up between them and it. So the placing starts at the far corner and works back toward the opening the line came in through. Sections of hose come off as the work comes back, which keeps the weight down and the route short as the room fills.
Pace matters more inside than it does out in the open. A basement floor is a closed room with limited light, footing on wet plastic and stone, and a screed crew working right behind the discharge end. The operator runs to what the finishers can handle instead of to what the machine is capable of.
What is under the floor decides more than how the concrete got there
A pump does not change what makes a basement floor last. The subgrade under it has to be level and compacted, the stone has to be spread, and the vapor barrier has to be down and intact before anybody calls for concrete. Hose crossing that plastic is a fair thing to worry about, so the route is planned to sit where it will not tear it and the crossing gets picked on purpose.
The mix is its own conversation and it happens before the load is ordered, because concrete meant to travel through hose gets proportioned for that at the plant rather than adjusted for it on site.
- Stone spread and the subgrade compacted before pour day
- The vapor barrier down, with the hose route agreed so it stays that way
- Water on site for priming and washing out, and a washout spot picked ahead
- A clear path from the trailer to the opening, gates unlocked and the way in swept
- Finishers inside and ready when the first concrete lands
